Kunafa with Lacha Shemai
Video Recipe
This Kunafah or Kunefe - is a Turkish dessert with Arabic orgins. It is made of a sweet, very fine vermicelli-like pastry and stuffed with white cheese. It is most often topped with ice cream or a thick whipped cream. I made this simplified version using ingredients that's available locally using vermicelli (lacha shemai0 instead of the kunafah pastry. The key to using the Indian vermicelli instead of the kunafa pastry is to break the vermicelli down as much as possible so that it binds together with the butter and sugar.
The filling is made from cream cheese, greek yogurt, muscavdo sugar and mozzarella cheese. Drizzled with rose water syrup. It is such a unique dessert that's popular with anyone who has a sweet tooth.
Video recipe available on my youtube video through my bio.
On the video I used normail shemai/sevai. But its best to make it with lachcha shemai.
